An 8 Day Meditation for Holy Week

Palm Sunday
Scripture: Matthew 21:1-11 (The Triumphal Entry)
The entire city of Jerusalem was in an uproar. There were roughly two million people who had gathered in and around the city for passover. As Jesus made His humble and peaceful entrance, proclaiming to be the Messiah and King of Israel, the people asked, “Who is this?” The crowds, some of which who saw Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead, replied, “It’s Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”
Unbeknownst to the crowd, Jesus was about to fulfill His mission to seek and save the lost. The people did not understand His way and method of salvation. They perceived He was coming to lead a revolt against the Roman Authority. Did they wonder why He didn’t ride into Jerusalem on a mule, which was the nobilities mount of choice? Did they notice there were no swords or cries of rebellion? This Jesus chose a donkey, which signified unexpected humility. The expectations of the people soon would be shattered.
His salvation was not temporal— it was spiritual. He came to save us from our sins. This Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient unto death. Andrew Murray summarizes His humility this way, “His humility is our salvation. His salvation is our humility.”
As we, the body of Christ, come together with joy, being like minded, having the same love, being united in spirit and purpose, let us ponder in this holy week – Who is This Jesus? Will He shatter our own expectations? Do we want to truly worship Him for who He is and not for what He will do? Let us humbly begin this meditation by surrendering ourselves to God and let Him do whatever He pleases in our hearts, lives, church, and communities.
